Dr. Paul Kuflik

Dr. Paul Kuflik specializes in problems including herniated discs, arthritic spinal conditions and scoliosis.

An associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai, Dr. Kuflik treats numerous spinal conditions ranging from herniated discs to arthritic conditions of the spine to scoliosis. 

Meet Dr. Paul Kuflik

Following medical school at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York, Dr. Kuflik completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Orthopedic Institute. He continued his training at the University of Toronto, Toronto General Hospital by completing a fellowship in Spinal Surgery.

Upon returning to New York, Dr. Kuflik practiced at the Mount Sinai Hospital as the Chief of the Orthopedic Spine Service from 1987-1989 and at the Hospital for Joint Diseases as Chief of the Scoliosis Service. Prior to returning to Mount Sinai in January 2013, he was at Beth Israel Medical Center for sixteen years as Associate Director of the Spine Institute. He is currently an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has authored book chapters, peer reviewed articles, and has presented at national meetings.
Dr. Kuflik performs spine surgery for numerous spinal conditions, on both children and adults, including scoliosis and other spinal deformities, degenerative and traumatic conditions of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, cervical myelopathy, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, and spondylolisthesis. His particular interest is in minimally invasive spine surgery, allowing more rapid, less painful recovery from surgery.


He has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and Metro area Top Doctor for more than ten years. He has been selected as a Best Doctor in America, and by US News and World Report.

Dr. Kuflik is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the Scoliosis Research Society and the North American Spine Society.

Dr. Paul Kuflik, formerly Associate Director of the Spine Institute at Beth Israel Medical Center, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Kuflik specializes in disorders of the spine with expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery for herniated discs, spinal stenosis, cervical spine disease, spine fusions and spinal deformity.
